Spiked Coffee

Your Cup of Joe Never Kicked Like This Before

If there is 1 thing I enjoy as much as BBQ, it’s a good cup of coffee. I know, you’re probably saying what does coffee have to do with BBQ. Well, a lot! For starters there are some great steak and brisket recipes that use coffee. Then there is my favorite, coffee the drink.

Coming out of winter, where it’s been mild but still chilly in Northern Ohio, I often make a large pot of coffee to drink while bbqing on those cold mornings as opposed to my summertime beverage of choice, an ice-cold beer or chilled vodka. I’ll do flavored coffee sometimes but one of my favorites is a twist on something my Dad use to drink from time to time. He used Butterscotch but I use Kahlua. Here is the recipe…

  • 6oz of STRONG fresh brewed coffee
  • 2 Tbsp spiced rum (I use Captain Morgans)
  • 1/4 Cup Kahlua Liqueur (my dad would use butterscotch liqueur)
  • whipped cream for garnish

Step 1: Pour the rum and Kahlua in a mug. Fill the mug with hot coffee. Top with whipped cream. Enjoy

This is also a nice drink for your adult functions.

About Pigskin Barbeque 80 Articles
Just a regular guy who loves to barbeque. Married father of two. I developed a love for grilling as a child watching my dad grill. My love for BBQ, using wood and the "low & slow" method came after I purchased my first horizontal smoker in my 20's.

    • Try it, I’m sure you will like it if you’re a coffee drinker and you will love it if you like spiced rum.
Let me know what you think of it.

Thing is, I made this post because I got up early 1 morning a few weeks ago and it was nice and cool, in the 30’s, to cook a pork butt. I thought it was too cold for an ice cold Bud Lite Lime so I made coffee, then around 11am I made the spiked coffee.

      • This def. is a very nice cup of coffee, I just put it all together and it is so good. I like the Capt. Morgan and the Kahlua together – beautiful way to enjoy a cup of Joe in the morning! Thanks for sharing your Dad’s way of having his coffee. Jim McGuire
